Hi neighbors, Summer is right around the corner, and you can start to feel it across the Biggest Little City! The days are getting longer, the smell of blooming flowers and sage is back in the air, and Reno is beginning to buzz with that familiar summer energy. As we head into Memorial Day weekend, I also want to take a moment to honor and remember the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Their courage and dedication will never be forgotten. In this edition of the Reno Report, you’ll find information on the “4th on Fourth” parade, including how community groups, businesses, and organizations can sign up to participate or help support the celebration through tax-deductible donations (select “In Honor of July 4, 2026 City of Reno Parade” from the Tribute Information drop-down menu) and sponsorship opportunities. You’ll also find details on several upcoming public meetings and community conversations happening across the City. Staying engaged and informed is one of the best ways to help shape Reno’s future, and there are plenty of opportunities coming up to get involved. And while you’re catching up on everything happening around the Biggest Little City, be sure to check out the newest episode of “On the Agenda." In this episode, we touch on the City of Reno’s balanced budget and the hard and thoughtful work by our Council and staff to get there, along with the Redevelopment Agency’s proposed Fiscal Year 2027 programs and improvements residents will start seeing across Reno in the year ahead! Listen on Spotify Listen on Apple Podcasts City Updates City of Reno approves tentative new budget The City of Reno has approved a tentative new budget for the upcoming fiscal year. At a meeting of the Reno City Council, staff were directed to move forward with the implementation of the 2026-2027 budget. Staff presented the proposed budget, Capital Improvement Plan and fee schedule. The City called the new budget a balanced tentative budget that eliminated the previously anticipated budget deficit while navigating inflation. Other Things To Know The Bottom Line With Council scheduled to consider budget adoption this week, we thought we’d answer one of the most common finance questions we hear: “Who checks the City’s finances?” Every year, the City of Reno is required by law to complete an independent financial audit. That audit is conducted by external accounting and financial experts who review the City’s financial statements, processes, and reporting to help ensure accuracy, transparency, and compliance with financial regulations. The audit is then reviewed publicly by the City’s Finance Advisory Board (FAB) and Reno City Council during public meetings, giving residents another opportunity to stay informed about how public funds are managed. In short: the audit is one of the ways the City helps ensure accountability, transparency, and responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars.
