Tips from Reno Fire, Reno Police, and where to swim 🏊 View as Webpage July 3, 2024 Reno Connect | Fourth of July Connecting Citizens to Our Community   Stay Cool and Safe on the Fourth of July 🗽📜 As we prepare for an exciting and hot Fourth of July, we want you and your family to have a fun and safe holiday. As a reminder, all City administrative offices will be closed on Thursday, July 4, 2024, in observance of Independence Day. Here is important information from the Reno Police Department, Reno Fire Department, and Reno Dispatch to help you enjoy the festivities responsibly. The Reno Fire Department reminds you the use of any fireworks in Reno and Washoe County are illegal and unsafe. Even though it may be legal to purchase fireworks in some locations outside of Washoe County, it is illegal to possess or use fireworks and/or pyrotechnics within the City of Reno and in the unincorporated areas of Washoe County. Illegal possession or use of fireworks can result in fines up to $1,000 and/or up to six months in jail for each offense. Reno Fire also asks residents to grill safely. When grilling, you should maintain a safe distance from them. Keep an eye on pets and children. Ensure grills are placed away from structures and vegetation. The Reno Police Department asks you to stay aware of your surroundings and to report any suspicious activities. Keep personal belongings secure and avoid leaving valuables in vehicles. There will be increased patrols, including DUI patrols, to ensure a safe environment on and off the roads. Use 911 for emergencies only. Non-emergency issues can be reported to 775-334-2677 (COPS). When you do call, be prepared to provide clear and concise information. Familiarize yourself with when and how to call 911. Stay calm during emergencies and provide accurate information to dispatchers. Pools, splash pads, and other ways to stay cool on July 4: With triple digit temperatures expected on the Fourth of July, Idlewild Pool and Traner Pool, will be open and are prefect places to cool off. There are several splash pads and water toys available at several City parks. These parks include Cyan Park, Idlewild Park, Las Brisas Park, Panther Valley Park, Pat Baker Park, Silver Lake Park, Summit Ridge Park, Wheatland Park, and Yori Park. Hours of operation are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. Don't forget to stay hydrated and wear sunblock! Pet Safety: To keep our pets cool and safe during hot weather, always provide plenty of fresh water and shaded areas. Keep them indoors if possible. Never leave your pet in a hot car, as temperatures can quickly become dangerously high. Avoid walking your pet on hot asphalt, which can burn their paws. Instead, walk them early in the morning or in the early evening hours. Also consider using pet-safe cooling mats or vests to help regulate body temperature. If you see an animal left alone in a hot vehicle, call Washoe County Regional Animal Services at 775-322-3647 (DOGS).
