The Reno Report for October 6, 2025

Email from City of Reno What's Happening in the Biggest little City? Can't view this email? View as Webpage A Message From Reno City Manager, Jackie Bryant. As we step into fall, I’m excited to highlight some important initiatives underway in our community! This month, the City launched a new housing dashboard, a tool designed to give us clearer insight into Reno’s housing needs today and over the next decade. With affordability and access at the forefront, the dashboard will help guide data-driven decisions and support solutions for our growing city. We’re also continuing the Biggest Little Fall Refresh, which gives residents the chance to safely dispose of household trash, bulky items, and other hard-to-manage materials at no cost. Additionally, we've just added household hazardous waste and e-waste to the program! These events not only make it easier to clear out clutter but also keep our neighborhoods clean and welcoming for everyone. In addition, new Fitness Courts are now open at Brodhead and Damonte Ranch Parks, expanding opportunities for free outdoor exercise in our neighborhoods. Fitness Ambassadors will be at the Fitness Courts every Saturday through October, providing free guided workouts and tips! From housing and neighborhood cleanups to creating more ways for residents to live healthy lives, these initiatives reflect our commitment to building a community we're proud to call home. Thank you for staying connected and engaged. It’s your input and involvement that help shape Reno’s future. I look forward to sharing more updates and hearing from you in the months ahead! According to RFD, firefighters have responded to at least nine reported fires related to lithium-ion batteries since 2017. It's important to note that most battery fires go unreported, as homeowners or individuals often extinguish them before they escalate into major incidents. Residents, providers, and stakeholders are encouraged to participate in this important process. To view the draft ordinance, provide online feedback, or learn more about public input opportunities, visit the Development Services website. Live Entertainment Community Engagement Process Over the years, the regulations on live entertainment have changed, resulting in many of the existing bars/nightclubs having unrestricted live entertainment (singing, dancing, karaoke, etc.), while other newer bars/nightclubs have separate regulations that were approved through a Conditional Use Permit that are unique to that particular location. At the June 11, 2025, City Council meeting, staff presented information on existing Zoning Code standards related to live entertainment activities. As a part of the presentation, staff highlighted concerns expressed by bar operators and businesses that want to see more flexibility around the live entertainment regulations. Council provided direction for staff to continue gathering community feedback before moving forward with any potential changes to the Code. Development Services hosted three virtual meetings to gather feedback and will present those findings to City Council at a later date. You can still submit your input by clicking this link.
