Join us!   City of Reno Invites Community to the Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month Celebration The City of Reno honors Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage for the month of May. As part of the Reno CommUNITY event series, the City partnered with the Asian Community Development Council (ACDC) and One APIA Nevada for a second year to bring this celebration to life on Saturday, May 17 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at City Plaza. This event is free and open to the public. The celebration will feature AANHPI food trucks, businesses, community resources, performances, and an opportunity to learn more about Reno's Chinatown history. Free parking will be available at the Reno City Hall parking garage during the time of the event. The U.S. Congress established May as Asian Pacific American Islander Heritage Month in 1992 to highlight the stories of people in the United States who are of Asian or Pacific Islander descent and to honor to completion of the Transcontinental Railroad. The month-long celebration honors the heritage and histories of people from the Asian continent and islands across the South Pacific including Hawaii, American Samoa, Federated Islands of Micronesia, Guam, and more.
