The Reno Report for November 17, 2025
Email from City of Reno Reno City Manager Jackie Bryant, here with another Reno Report for your inbox. Can't view this email? View as Webpage A Message From Reno City Manager, Jackie Bryant. Hello Reno, I hope November is treating you well so far! As we move deeper into the season of giving, I’m reminded of how much heart this community has. Thank you to everyone who has already contributed to our annual Food Drive for the Food Bank of Northern Nevada. If you’d still like to participate, you have a few days left before the drive ends on November 20. Donations of non-perishable food items can be dropped off at Reno City Hall (1st Floor Lobby), the Evelyn Mount Northeast Community Center, or the Moana Springs Community Aquatics and Fitness Center. Your support goes a long way for families across our region. I also want to highlight that applications are still open for the Older Adults Home Modification Program. This program provides important safety upgrades for residents who are 62 or older and earn at or below 80% of the area median income. These improvements help enhance accessibility and give seniors the confidence to continue living independently at home. If you or someone you know might benefit, I encourage you to apply. We’re also accepting applications for the Reno Constituents Institute (RCI) through December 5. This free program is a wonderful way to learn more about how your local government operates and how decisions are made. Since this is our last Reno Report before December, I want to wish you and your loved ones a happy Thanksgiving. I hope you find time to slow down, recharge, and connect with the people who matter most. Finally, I hope you can join us for the City of Reno Tree Lighting on November 28 at 7 p.m. in City Plaza. This festive event brings together families, neighbors, and friends, and we’d love to celebrate the start of the holiday season with you! Is there something specific you'd like to see in this newsletter? Please send me an email! An online survey is also available in English and Spanish to gather public feedback. (Available Here) Feedback will be shared at a future Reno City Council meeting, where staff will look for guidance on potential next steps, including possible changes to nonprofit registration regulations and fee structures. Nonprofits are usually exempt from business licenses because they don’t operate for profit and aim to serve the public or a specific cause. However, this exemption has raised concerns in city planning and public safety. Without registration, the City is often not aware of nonprofit operations, which can lead to incompatible land uses or limited safety reviews compared to commercial businesses. Community Wildfire Protection Plan The Reno Fire Department (RFD), in partnership with SWCA Environmental Consultants (SWCA), is pleased to announce the opening of the public review period for the draft 2026 City of Reno Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP). The review period is now underway and will remain open through Dec. 3. A public webinar will be held on Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. The 2026 City of Reno CWPP is a collaborative effort to enhance the safety and resilience of our community from wildfires. This plan aims to identify and address vulnerabilities while emphasizing the protection of lives, property, and valued resources. To access the draft plan and participate in the review process, visit the Reno Fire Department’s CWPP main page. Register for the public webinar on Nov. 19 to voice your opinions on the CWPP draft to SWCA and RFD representatives directly. The public webinar will offer Spanish assistance. In addition to the webinar, residents may also provide input in-person at City Hall. Feedback forms are available at the welcome desk in the first-floor lobby, in both English and Spanish. For more information or to ask any questions on the draft CWPP, please contact SWCA Project Manager, Jayden Peterson, at jayden.peterson@swca.com.
